XELR8 Conference in Vegas and the Guru Complex
Filed under: network marketing, internet marketing, search marketing, self realization, personal growth
I flew in last week Friday and arrived in Las Vegas around noon, got settled into my hotel room, and then it was off to the races. Once I was settled I called Tom to find out what room he was in so that I could make my way there and was welcomed by Matt Jamieson and Jim Gillhouse as well. Matt Jamieson is responsible for teaching me the internet marketing system that has afforded me some success and will only see more in the future.
Las Vegas is everything it is said to be but I’m afraid that the famous saying “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas,” is completely wrong. My memories and the friendships that I’ve made in the time there have followed me home.
I didn’t have a lot of time to really go see the sights but having spent my nights at the Flamingo, on the strip, I did have a great view. I made sure to get pictures of the water show in front of the Bellagio Hotel as well as some pictures of Tom and I. I’ll be sure to share them soon.
I had a wonderful time and even though there was a lot of excitement revolving around the release of a new product and tools, I treasured the time spent with the gentlemen who have helped me so much over the last year.
This is the first Network Marketing conference that I’ve had the pleasure to attend and there is one point I would like to make. I’ve heard countless people encourage people that are just getting started to go to these conferences for a number of reasons, one of which is that you’ll be able to spend time with the high level earners.
Why is that important? Its not about networking, or anything that they can teach you–even though those things never hurt.
When you spend time with them you begin to see them for who they are and realize those people are no different then you. They may be making more money but that is no reason to separate their ability from your own in this industry. Your perspective changes when you realize they were once standing where you are today.
They have a family. They see difficulty and hurt. They also enjoy relaxing and having a few laughs, maybe laughing at the same jokes as you. Imagine that. The only difference between someone who is just starting and the person who has a large business created is time. Time spent growing their business and earning the knowledge and experience.
Its often easy to subscribe to the idea of someone being a “Guru” and many people are often labeled as such for branding. However, the truth is that person puts their pants on one leg at a time, just like the rest of us.
It is wise to listen and learn from those who have more experience than you but also understand that they are a human being, just like you. If it is your wish to reach that far, you can get there as well.
