Why Do We Fall?

Yestesterday I finished an article I’ve been wanting to publishing for about two months now. Everything finally came through and you’ll soon understand. I’d love to tell you more and I’ve been tempted but that would only ruin the fun.

Enough teasing.

After I finished the article I sat down to relax and watch a movie.Movies are always a dangerous thing for me to watch lately.

Since I’ve become more in tune with myself I notice things and one of the things I always delight in are the lessons planted throughout the movies which entertain us so much.

On this particular occasion I was watching Batman Returns. Those of you who have been with me for awhile know of my history with comic books. At one time I was a collector of many books and who doesn’t enjoy Batman?

On a couple occasions Bruce’s father asks him a question. Bruce had just fallen into a well shaft and was frightened when bats flood into the shaft through a crack in the well’s wall. In response to Bruce’s fear and hesitiation he asks:

Why Do We Fall, Bruce?

Have you ever asked yourself this question?

I know I have.

Sometimes it comes up in different forms.

Why do bad things always happen to me?

Why did my business have to fail?

Couldn’t my plans go smoothly, just once?

After all, life would sure be simpler if it did. Maybe so, but if everything were so easy you would never learn anything. It took me some time to see things this way but everything has a process.

And that is a good thing. As Bruce’s father says in response to his own question. So we can pick ourselves up. We learn from our mistakes.

This is where I see a sort of con happening out there in the internet today when it comes to internet marketing and home based business. We are inundated with story after story of how this person or that person made it big in a matter of months, weeks or even days but the fail to tell you the whole truth.

They don’t tell you about the aftermath of failed attempts or the years of work they put in to gain the experience which allowed them to catapult their new endeavor into the stratosphere.

Growth and success takes time and effort and if you aren’t willing to fail. If you aren’t willing to put in the time and sweat equity necessary you have a decision to make.

I can’t remember who it was that said it but I’m going to leave you with one final thought which sums it all up. It took me 15 years to become an overnight success.

  1. Sometimes people choose to omit the previous failures in order to look better but sometimes we don’t want them to tell us they ever failed.

I think about this stuff a lot lately. And frequently I’m reminded of a scene from a “The Waltons” segment. The son JR is giving singing lessons to mysterious young woman and he tells her that she won’t get better until she risks being terrible (not a quote).

Some of us don’t have as much time for the failure learning curve as we once had, either.

  2. There are blessings in problems ….
is one of my favorite sayings.
It’s not like I am a pessimist and go hunting
for problems… but they do come along.
When I look for the blessing, it usually offsets
    the impact.
Now you’ll have to go rent movies you have
seen previously and then be amazed at
what you missed the first time around…
sort of the movie within the movie.

  3. Deb and Deb Estep - You two are great. I can always count on honest and thought provoking comments from both of you. First, to Deb, it is true that some people are held to standard and society doesn’t want to see them fail, but that doesn’t mean they don’t. It means the wool is being pulled over our eyes to give an impression.

I don’t think there is anything wrong with story telling like this, I’m not condemning people for not talking about their journey as a whole. What bothers me is when people tell these kinds of stories to lead people to a decision (offten a purchasing decision) but don’t give them the full picture.

Its wrong when you’re talking about someone making $$ like it was easy and came out of thin air but didn’t describe the journey and pitfalls it took to get to that success.

Deb Estep - Thats it right there in a nutshell. Problems are blessings in disguise which cause us to learn and grow. Dealing with those situations and new ones in a better way because of it.
