What Does Entrepreneurship and Weight Training have in Common?

Shortly before my trip to the Bahamas I started weight training. After about a month I was already beginning to feel a difference, not only in muscle tone but also in how I felt. My energy levels actually increased.

While in the middle of a particularly intense session it occurred to me just how much goes into weight training.

With the barbell over head, I realized my efforts lacked a key element. My arms began to tense after several reps and I had to stop and consider the lack of balance in my work out.

As a result I started searching (internet search is a man’s new best friend) for exercises which would challenge certain muscle groups and now my sessions focus on all the major muscle groups. This provides me with equilibrium and allows me to develop in all areas.

Entrepreneurs have to find his or her sense of balance as well. A project feels like your life’s blood and loving what you do means you cannot just switch it off.

Balance comes into play by recognizing this is OK. The passion isn’t going to go away and thats a good thing. Keeping the fire in your belly alive will often see you through to completion.

Until I got into the home-based arena I thought being a business owner was solely about starting a business and making money. However, that is only a piece of the whole exercise. Being an entrepreneur is about life and having a semblance of control of how you live it.

When I started working on my travel business with YTB Travel it consumed my every thought. Even when I was with family and friends I was itching to return to the work which was screaming at me to be completed. I feel alive while working on my business and I love it but my other relationships would begin to suffer if I wasn’t careful.

Finding balance in entrepreneurship is about exercising the different areas of your life and balancing them all. To balance them you’ll need to develop a laser like focus on the ‘muscle group’ you are working on.

Spending time with family means being a part of the moment and allowing the pull towards your passion to shrink to the back of your mind for the time being.

The opposite is also true.

Remember, live in and enjoy the moment.
