Rick Warren on The Purpose of Life

What’s in your hand?
I came across this video of Rick Warren’s talk at TED a couple weeks ago. Rick is the author of a strikingly popular book called The Purpose Driven Life. I read the book when it was new but I hadn’t heard or seen Rick speak until I saw this video.
His talk lasted 20 minutes and it got me thinking about my early days in network marketing. Back when I was just getting started, didn’t have any faith in the industry (let alone in myself) and had no idea what I was doing.
I highly recommend watching the video and giving the things he talks about some thought. Especially the part where he digs into purpose and poses a question: What’s in your hand? Once you have done that I have a little more to share below.
What did you think of what he had to say?
Like I said before, it got me thinking about my recent past but more specifically, it reminded me how important it is to know your purpose and embrace your passions if you want to be successful.
So many people go through their daily lives attending to efforts, jobs and frivolities without having truly defined what their purpose is in life. I can’t imagine what it must be like to have lived 40, 50, 60+ years without having a direction for my life.
But I see it every day.
This is why personal development and the being introspective (being able to look inside yourself to analyze, create change and grow — knowing yourself) are so important to any form of success.
After starting this blog and sharing my story of revival I discovered my purpose. The response I received from readers and the friends I’ve made along the way caused me to realized that I have an empowering story to tell.
In telling my story, my purpose is to inspire and arm others, like yourself, with the tools they need to become the person they want to become.
So. I will ask one more time: What is in your hand? What skills do you have which aren’t making use of?
Think of that for a time. I know, without a doubt, you have something of value to contribute.
