Process of Inspiration OR Blogging Without Obligation

Dear friend,
Sometimes the progression of inspiration amazes me. Sharing thoughts, feelings and experiences here has become a part of me. There is a special place in my heart for the time spent writing to you.
What amazes me is how you all inspire me, give me hope and make me smile when you choose to write to me. Secondly, there are times when I feel as if I’m being lead to specific lessons and inspirations for the express purpose of sharing them here.
For that I am also thankful.
Tim
A Process of Inspiration
A few days ago I responded to a Tweet by Terry Starbucker on Twitter.com (You can find me at www.twitter.com/tldtim … follow me and I’ll follow you in return). He mentioned an HBO series about John Adams.
Yesterday, while reading DM News, I came across a brief article about the series and read a quote which struck a chord with some of the thoughts I expressed above.
Now letter-writing is… to me… the most agreeable amusement, and writing to you the most entertaining and most agreeable of all letter-writing. - John Adams
The page became my notebook as I scribbled some thoughts and circled the quote to be sure I remembered to write about it.
Then…
Little more than an hour ago I went to Deb’s blog, Deb_Inside, and found a badge labeled “Blogging without Obligation”. My curiosity was piqued and as a result I’m sitting here writing this post.
Blogging without Obligation
Blogging without Obligation states:
- Because you shouldn’t have to look at your blog like it is a treadmill.
- Because its okay to just say what you have to say. If that makes for a long post, fine. Short post, fine. Frequent post, fine. Infrequent post, fine.
- Because its okay to not always be enthralled with the sound of your own typing.
- Because sometimes less is more.*
- Because only blogging when you feel truly inspired keeps up the integrity of your blog.
- Because they are probably not going to inscribe your stat, link and comment numbers on your tombstone.
* underlining for emphasis is mine.
And I agree. Inspiration comes when you are open to it, not when you will it too.
Just because you feel obligated to your readers doesn’t mean they expect it from you.
The single best thing you could do for yourself and your readers is to just be yourself. It’s often said that authenticity is one of the keys to a successful blog (business or otherwise) and staying true to your own patterns and needs are a part of that.
Inspiration can come in bite size pieces or they can blow you over with the force of a freight train. Just remain open to them and they will come. Putting pressure on yourself or forcing the ideas will only put up walls–keeping your true genius out.
And neither you, nor I want that.
Until next time…

Hi Tim, happy to be one of the inspirations for this post. Blogging is certainly the most “agreeable amusement” for me! All the best.
