Learn how to identify two types of people that never get ahead and NOT be one of them.

This is really straight forward stuff. There are two types of peole that are never going to be able to make the grade and get ahead: Those that do nothing more than they are told and the ones that don’t even do what they are told. In today’s world its not impossible to keep your head above water. There are ways that you can budget yourself, and remain organized that will allow you to get past the week to week stresses but there is a difference between barely floating and getting ahead.

To me, getting ahead is the fact of having security (money) but there is a great deal of joy in it. Having gotten ahead means that you’re living life and experiencing it. If you’re barely keeping your head above water, you are always working, stressing and the time that you do have is often times not as fruitful because there is always the thought of impending doom because of bills yet to arrive, maybe your car hiccuped and died. Whatever. I think you get my meaning.

Now, with that said, I’ll get back to the two brand of people that I’ve decided to discuss here today.

Character trait 1People who only do the minimum as much as they are asked to do.

These are the people that go to work, do there job, and they may do a very good job but they stay at the minimum required because their point of view is that they are only there to put in their 8 hours (10, 12 however many hours a given person puts in on a given day) and then go home. There can be other reasoning for this behavior as well. Maybe they work within a team of individuals that get paid more than them for whatever reason so they feel they don’t need to put in as much effort. Sadly, they’ve gotten stuck in a the daily grind. There is no fire in what they do and thier enthusiasm has gone stale along with their morale.

The reason they don’t get ahead is because they aren’t trying. Often they view their situation as a no way out type of situation and have given up. They’ve resigned their desires and shelved them because they don’t see the possibilities before them. Employers often overlook these people because they aren’t putting themselves out there as achievers.

Character Trait 2 — People who don’t have the ambition to even do what is required of them.

This one is clear cut. If you don’t do the work you aren’t going to be able to keep a job. Which is why the ones that don’t do what they are told often bounce from one job to the next. They can’t keep the job they had.

Anyone can keep their head above water for awhile with either approach but will never get ahead. And what each and everyone of us wants is to be able to experience life and enjoy it with the people that we care about, correct? My hope is that your immediate answer to that question is yes, and if you find that one of these behaviors fits you or someone that you know its very easy to correct them. Simply make the decision to 1) not live in a world of minimums and 2) add value to the lives of the people around you. Do your job and be willing to go the extra mile. Get to know your co-workes, help them and show them that you care. The first is the most difficult, since it calls for a change in how you think, but its also the most important. And secondly, by deciding to add value to enrich the peoples lives around you, you’ve taken your work ethic to another level. You’re willing to do what it takes to get the job done, and with proper application and communication you will.

The rewards of these simple steps are so worth it as are the rewards.

We’re on a path to a better life, lets stay on it.
