I Don’t Want to Sell

Those words have been repeated to me more times than I can count in my years of marketing. The number of people who are in network marketing who don’t want to, let alone knowing how to sell their product is astonishing.

I remember getting a call from a networker in the travel industry. He was telling me all about his company, why their compensation plan is better, how I can make more money and he truly believed he was doing me a favor by sharing this information.

I gave him the benefit of the doubt. After he had finished his speech I asked him what he had to offer in the way of training for product sales (something I’ve had a fair amount of success with in the last year). Um, uhhh, welll…

Says it all, doesn’t it?

Building a successful network marketing business is about building your network, selling the product to the best of your ability and teaching your network to do the same. John Fogg says, It Doesn’t Matter.

  1. “You must create a number of approaches to individuals when it comes to obtaining network contacts. For example, you may want to create and memorize a lead speech for mothers, fathers, business executives, the everyday person, and more. This can help you to ensure that you are effectively appealing to each of these individuals. You must observe the individual prior to approach for a few minutes to ensure that you have the correct attraction speech prepared. ” - Kevin Sinclair

  2. Hi Tim!

I think the road to great sales is to not really think about the act as “selling” - I like to think of it more as solving people’s problems. For me it’s not about a rehearsed speech or some type of script…It’s about making a connection with someone and then going from there.

By the way - thanks for stopping by my customer service blog!
