Have you ever noticed?

Carmi of Written Inc writes about Aged Wood and displays a photograph he’s taken of a fallen tree. His photo and words got me thinking not only about nature but about us as humans and the fact that we age.
In America we have this tendency to disregard those that we consider ‘elderly’ as if they have nothing more to contribute to society. This idea couldn’t be farther from the truth.
In my personal experience, these are the people who have learned to be still. Not just because their body demands it, I mean real stillness. The stillness that comes with years of experience and in turn has become fruitful, surfacing in the character and integrity that they display.
Have you ever noticed this?
An example that comes to mind is of a woman named Renata, who is 90 years young, and still working. For as long as I’ve known her, she’s blessed me with a smile each and every day, and for that I always give her some of my time, asking her only to share that radiant smile with me for a while longer.
On the surface this can be inspiring alone, but Renata’s story isn’t about her need to persevere even at the age of 90. No, her story is in the fact that she doesn’t complain about her situation.
Regardless of the trials, she places her cares and concerns where they belong, and greets each day with joy. Without fail.
This kind of character, and stillness of being isn’t something that is quickly learned. You cannot purchase an ebook and hope to discover the secrets of happiness in the face of hardship.
Renata taught me to acknowledge the difficulties of life but always accentuate the positive. I’m reminded of a saying, "You can make Heaven of Hell, or a Hell of Heaven", that illustrates this perfectly.
You create your own experience.
How about you? Has someone awaken something in you that you once turned a blind eye to, as Renata did for me?
