Catalyst For Change
Catalyst: Any agent
(person place or thing—even an event), that provokes or accelerates the rate of
change in a your life.
Change is hard to swallow. Not many people will refute the fact that change causes a lump in our
thoughts because it can often times hurt. It causes us to examine our lives and face possibilities that quite
frankly might scare us but have you ever thought about the things in your life
that cause those changes?
A catalyst can be many things but for me, in the case of my
own personal growth, it was the betrayal of a so-called friend. For others it
might be a letter, or an event like the loss of a loved one.
As I said before these things create change but when facing
change it can often times help you to stay the course if you identify the
person, place, thing or event, which caused the chain of events.
After my friendship ended I began to spend time with other people, befriending people that I could not
talk to for fear of rocking the boat in the old friendship. Those friendships lead to meeting more people
still and eventually would shift and change into the opportunity for me to
start my own networking business, for example.
If I were still friends with the person the story
begins with, I would not have had the opportunities that I now have before me.
I had no clear idea of what changes were going to be occuring with that friendship ended but I knew that something had changed within me. A desire to seek growth from within was taking seed and I knew the pain was sharp but there was a purpose. And there is still the hope that one day I might be shown the way to mend the friendship.
The lessons I learned from this friendship will remain with me and did indeed cause me to grow. That is what I take with me and that is what made the difficult transition easier to work through.
Now it is your turn. What are/were the catalysts in your life?
