Can You Influence People?

Any time someone is entertaining the idea of becoming a leader its important to know the answer to this question. Especially if they are getting involved in an industry that creates them, such as I have (Network Marketing).
The problem rests in the fact that most people consider leaders to be presidents, CEOs or someone who did or created something which redefined the way we live (Blogs, Web 2.0). The truth is that anyone can be a leader.
It might be a simple conversation motivating them to make an important decision.
You might be having a conversation about starting a home based business.
Maybe you are teaching your sister to enjoy learning at an early age.
Your actions alone, whether you are aware of it or not can influence people.
A couple months ago I was contacted by a gentleman who was investigating the possibility of starting a home based business. His friend had approached him about a particular company and the opportunity that existed with them so he returned home and googled the company name.
He found me.
So, he emails me and asks me to be honest with him. Tell me the truth. Neither one of us has anything to lose for it so can you tell me honestly, if I should do this or not?
I spent a good hour writing a very long and detailed response. I told him about my story and how Network Marketing has caused immense growth within me. Looking back, I spoke little of actual company details because it wasn’t the company that concerned him. He wanted to know if it would work. But I digress.. back to the story.
The reply arrived about a week later. He had decided to join the company with his friend and was generous with thankfulness and appreciation. He was so excited to get started that I could feel it as I read his email.
Our conversation and the things I discussed with him influenced his decision process. Being a Leader doesn’t have to mean you are part of big movements or the head of Fortune 500 companies. You can be a Lead no matter where or what you are in life.
Now, can you think of times like my example above that you influenced the people in your life?
Successful people have the ability to influence people.
Where are you in your ability to influence?
